Gray K et al. Web 2.0 authorship: issues of referencing and citation for academic integrity. Internet and Higher Learning, 2008; 11: 112-118.
Abstract: Web 2.0 authoring forms such as wikis and blogs, social bookmarking, and audio and video podcasting pose a challenge to academic authorship traditions. This paper reviews the provisions made in major academic referencing and citation style guides for acknowledging content and ideas that may be published using these new web authoring forms. It offers an overview of features of web 2.0 authoring forms and explores concepts of authoring that can help academics to understand the challenges of working with these forms. It provides examples of referencing and citation in scholarly and scientific communication, and concludes that the conceptual basis of referencing and citation as expressed in current systems and standards needs reform in order to bring academic integrity to the use of these new forms of authorship.

Job Posting: Transition Phase Project Leader, Canadian Virtual Health Library
A 3 month contract position.
The Canadian Health Libraries Association (CHLA/ABSC) seeks a project leader with strong leadership, communication, planning and facilitation skills to engage stakeholders and lead the Canadian Virtual Health Library (CVHL) network formation.
The Project leader will be responsible for the transition period groundwork that will support the detailed planning of Phase 1 of the CVHL project. The focus of the transition phase will be to develop a 3-5 year plan (budget, facilities, integrate technology and content strategies, etc.) and to obtain stakeholder commitment. The focus for Phase 1 will be to engage those stakeholders in establishing a network organization, to conduct detailed business and technology planning, and to prepare implementation and launch plans.

The University of Manitoba Libraries invites applications for the position of Section Head, Misericordia Health Centre Library. This position provides a unique opportunity to participate in management, reference, liaison, education, and collection development to meet the information needs of staff and clinicians of the Misericordia Health Centre.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of the Health Sciences Libraries the incumbent is responsible for the following:
- Administration: Manages the overall operation of the Misericordia Health Centre Library in all its aspects including recommendations on staffing, planning, computing, organiz¬ation and accom-plishment of the workload. Supervises the Library Assistant working in the library.
- Reference and Research Services: Meets the information needs of faculty, staff, students and patients at the Misericordia Health Centre Library, staff in the WHRA community areas and the WRHA Community Funded Agencies by providing reference services, including assistance in the use of databases and literature search services as required.
- Education: Delivers instruction and training to individuals and groups through a variety of methods.
- Collections: Prepares and recommends to the Head an annual acquisitions budget for the purchase of materials to support the operational objectives, courses and programs of the Misericordia Health Centre. Builds and maintains the collection and performs collection evaluations as required.
- Access Services: Ensures the provision of Circulation and Document Delivery Services.
- Marketing/Liaison: Promotes the Library and its services to the hospital and the WRHA staff. Promotes the role of the librarian in the delivery of information supporting evidence-based practice in the clinical setting.
- Accreditation: Achieves and maintains appropriate standards to ensure that the Misericordia Health Centre meets the require¬ments of the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation.
- Participates in the planning and development of programs and systems in support of the HSL strategic and operational goals.
-Represents the Library on appropriate committees at both the University of Manitoba and the Misericordia Health Centre.
Qualifications:
A degree from an ALA-accredited library program is essential. An undergraduate or graduate degree in the biological sciences would be preferred. At least two years’ experience in health sciences librarianship is required. Experience in an academic or government library, or a library with an emphasis on health sciences is required. Experience in the areas of reference services, information literacy, and collection management is required. Must have an understanding of what evidence based research is and a good knowledge of critical appraisal techniques. Demonstrated ability to plan and implement new programs and services is required. Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative and integrated environment is required. Knowledge of and experience with computing technology, database searching, the web, and reference services are required. Experience with marketing is an asset. Must be dynamic, highly motivated and self-directed, and have the ability to work independently as well as with a team. Demonstrated high level of creativity, motivation, initiative and responsibility are required. Good oral and written communication skills are required to work successfully with health care professionals, students and staff in a variety of situations. The successful candidate must engage in an active program of scholarship and research and should have a commitment to the continuing development of professional knowledge and skills.
