MLA Grants and Scholarships

 

The Medical Library Association offers a variety of scholarships and grants to assist qualified students in graduate library science programs and to enable practicing health sciences librarians to take advantage of opportunities for continuing professional development.

Deadline for applications is December 1, except as noted. Email submission is preferred.

Town Hall Meeting with Karen Adams,CLA President Elect

The Manitoba Library Associations Working Group is facilitating a Town Hall Meeting with Karen Adams, President Elect of CLA and Director of Libraries at the University of Manitoba. 

Date: Thursday, January 6

Time: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Location: Buchwald Room, 2nd Floor, Millennium Library (251 Donald Street)

 

Karen will discuss CLA’s Future Plan (http://www.clatoolbox.ca/CLAFuture/), and this event will provide an opportunity for those working in the library in information fields to learn more about the possible future of the Association and have their voices heard. CISTI Committee – Input Requested



The next meeting of the CISTI Committee on Health Sciences Information is on October 29 in Ottawa.  Marlene Dorgan, Past President, represents CHLA/ABSC on this committee.

Marlene is seeking feedback from CHLA members on any issues or concerns that they would like her to bring forward, from the CHLA/ABSC perspective.

Some of the items on the meeting agenda include a presentation and mini-consultation for CISTI’s strategic directions in the health area, as well as a presentation on CISTI’s data research initiatives.  What is CISTI’s role as a repository for health data e.g. through PMC Canada for data attached to the research file?  There will also be a discussion on the CISTI –Infotrieve partnership.

 You care encouraged you to provide your input and feedback.  Please send your comments to Angela Osterreicher by October 22 and she will submit them to CHLA.

PMC Canada Webinar series

Do you have questions about the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Policy on Access to Research Outputs? How about questions on PMC Canada’s manuscript submission process? Do you know the difference between PubMed Central Canada and PubMed Central? Here’s your chance to get answers to these and other questions. Speakers from NRC’s Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (NRC-CISTI) and CIHR will give a brief overview of CIHR’s policy, PMC Canada, and how to submit manuscripts, followed by a question and answer session.

HLS/MLA Professional Development Grant for Hospital and Clinical Librarians

Financial support is available to advance your professional education, attend a meeting or conduct research. The HLS/MLA Professional Development Grant helps librarians in hospitals and other clinical care settings to acquire knowledge and skills through educational or research activities.
